Shin-Etsu MicroSi Introduces New Series of Fluoroelastomers Known as Shin-Etsu SIFEL Products
PHOENIX--April 26, 2000--New Fluoroelastomer products are useful in many industries
including automotive, aerospace, electronics/semiconductor, and chemical manufacturing, in versatile applications such as Adhesives and Coatings, Potting Gel, Fluororubber for Liquid Injection Molding
and Molding Compounds
Shin-Etsu MicroSi announced the introduction of a new series of fluoroelastomer materials, known as Shin-Etsu SIFEL(c) products, developed and manufactured by its Tokyo-based parent company, Shin-Etsu Chemical Co., Ltd. Shin-Etsu MicroSi will market the Shin-Etsu SIFEL products primarily for the electronics, semiconductor, and specialty markets.
Shin-Etsu SIFEL products are an entirely new class of fluoroelastomers, available in paste or liquid form, which cure into resilient elastomers and are highly versatile for preparation of high performance liquid injection molding and molding compounds, adhesives and coatings, and potting gels. Shin-Etsu SIFEL products can be easily fabricated and are exceptionally resistant to a wide variety of chemicals, including solvents, fuels, oils, and strong acids. Compared to conventional fluoroelastomers, which become solid at temperatures below 0(degree)C and lose elasticity, Shin-Etsu SIFEL products maintain elasticity, even at temperatures below -50(Degree)C. SIFEL also maintains low moisture permeability, provides excellent electrical insulation properties, is heat resistance and nonflammable through a very wide temperature range.
Shin-Etsu SIFEL products allow design and processing flexibility for adhesion and coating applications exposed to harsh environmental conditions. Some examples include die-attachments, conformal coatings, and sealing for electronic and control devices used in severe exposure applications.
Shin-Etsu SIFEL potting gels provide excellent low stress encapsulation performance for sensitive electronic components and protection in harsh environments such as fuels, solvents, and chemicals. In addition, Shin-Etsu SIFEL potting gels allow reliable transmittance of outside signals to sensors.
Editor's Notes:
Shin-Etsu MicroSi became a member of the Shin-Etsu chemical family in 1989 and has continuously expanded its product lines, which now include photolithography products (pellicles, photoresists, quartz substrates for photomasks, adhesion promoters, and contrast enhancement materials) and semiconductor packaging products (thermal management materials, epoxy molding compounds and underfills, flexible copper laminates, and Shin-Etsu SIFEL products).
Shin-Etsu Chemical Co., Ltd., the Tokyo-based chemical company, is the world's largest supplier of semiconductor materials, semiconductor silicon, synthetic quartz glass and PVC and a major producer of other materials including silicones, methylcellulose, and rare earth materials and magnets.
