Textron Names Cate M. Roberts Director of Community Affairs
PROVIDENCE, R.I.--April 25, 2000--Textron Inc. today announced that Cate M. Roberts has been named director of community affairs, effective immediately. She will report to Textron Executive Vice President Administration and Chief Human Resources Officer John D. Butler.Roberts will oversee Textron's local community affairs program, including its charitable contributions, corporate philanthropy and community involvement activities. She will also be responsible for expanding and cultivating Textron's involvement with the Chamber of Commerce Academy, Rhode Island's first charter school designed to meet the needs of "at risk" urban youth.
"Cate's impressive portfolio of experience, combined with her steadfast dedication to our community, make her the perfect executive to assume this important role," said Butler. "Her expertise will strengthen the function as we strive to make a positive impact within the community in which we operate."
Roberts most recently served as vice president and manager of community relations for FleetBoston Financial, responsible for the corporation's charitable giving, community relations and corporate sponsorship programs in Rhode Island. Prior to joining Fleet in 1995, Roberts spent three years as director of public relations for Roni Hicks & Associates, a full-service advertising and public relations firm located in San Diego, CA. She also served as director of communications and development for MEND, a San Diego-based nonprofit organization.
Roberts serves on the boards of directors of the Rhode Island Zoological Society, Women's Center of Rhode Island, International Institute of Rhode Island, Academic Decathlon, Renaissance City Film Festival, City Year Rhode Island and is secretary of the board of First Night Providence. She is also a member of the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce Marketing Committee and the Business Volunteers for the Arts Steering Committee.
