Edwards leaves Australia in second place in World Superbike standings

2000 World Superbike Championship Series, Round 2: Phillip Island, Australia, April 24, 2000 Castrol Honda's Colin Edwards II took fifth place in both races in Sunday's rain-interrupted second round of the World Superbike championship. Edwards is second in the points standings. Bimota's Anthony Gobert and Aprilia's Troy Corser gave the record crowd a thrill as they each took a win. The Australian pair were both debut winners on their new-for-2000 machines and sent their rain-soaked 56,000 fans home happy. Current World GP champ Carl Fogarty crashed on lap five of race two, suffering a suspected broken collarbone. Overall points standings: 1. Haga, Yamaha - 71 2. Edwards, Honda - 67 3. Corser, Aprilia - 51 4. Chili, Suzuki - 43 5. Lavilla, Kawasaki - 42 6. Gobert, Bimota - 36 7. Fogarty, Ducati - 36 8. Fujiwara, Suzuki - 27 9. Aoki, Ducati - 26 10.
