The event marks the return of Steele to full-time ARCA competition. The 3-time ARCA champ won 4 of the previous 5 ARCA races he has entered at Salem. More than 1/3rd of the 63 events have been won from the pole. Benny Parsons sat on the pole at Salem every race from April 1968 through September of '69 for a total of 7 consecutive pole awards, more than any other ARCA driver in Salem history. Jack Bowsher, car owner for Leslie, is the all-time winner here with 5 victories. 19-time ARCA winner Bob Schacht is entered. Schacht won the last 500-lapper held at Salem on 10/8/89 driving a Buick, the last Buick to win here. Additional entrants include veterans Bob Strait (former 2-time Salem winner), Bobby Gerhart, Dill Whittymore, Eric Smith, Mark Gibson, Andy Belmont, Joe Cooksey and Jeff Finley to name a few. Some of the rookies attempting to make the starting grid at Salem include Kirk Shelmerdine, Shawna Robinson, Karla Lampe, Brian Ross, Mike Harmon and Anthony Hill.
