RWD Technologies Awarded Five-Year Contract

22 April 2000

Deal Supports the Ford Motor Company's Lean Manufacturing Production System
COLUMBIA, Md. - RWD Technologies, Inc. announced on Friday that Ford Motor
Company has selected RWD to provide professional services to Ford Vehicle
Operations for the implementation of lean manufacturing processes at selected
automotive assembly plants over the next five years. Ford and RWD believe
that this implementation will substantially widen Ford's lead over the other
North American manufacturers in cost and quality and move Ford into a leading
position worldwide. The agreement is incentive-based, with RWD able to earn
additional income beyond the base contract amount each year if certain milestones
are achieved.

In addition to plant floor coaching and manufacturing management
expertise, RWD will also provide an Internet-based e-Learning system to help
Ford disseminate new knowledge and lessons learned rapidly throughout the
Vehicle Operations organization.

"Ford Motor Company's decision to proceed with an aggressive plan to
implement lean manufacturing in North American Vehicle Operations is a
landmark decision for the automotive industry," said John Beakes, RWD's
President. "By combining the commitment to proven lean manufacturing processes
with a strong technology base, including e-Learning and supply chain
management, Ford Vehicle Operations is extremely well positioned to capture
world-wide leadership in cost and quality. It is a tremendous privilege for
RWD to work with Ford in this important endeavor."

RWD's team of lean manufacturing specialists is the largest and most
capable in the industry. The Company's proprietary LeanVision(TM) methodology
is a proven system for making the transition from traditional mass
manufacturing to highly efficient lean manufacturing processes as swiftly and
cost-effectively as possible. RWD's successful support of Jaguar in the
implementation of lean manufacturing for the launch of the new S-type in
England was an important precedent for RWD's selection for this Vehicle
Operations effort.
