MAXIMUS Begins Work on New Fleet Management System for the City of Chicago
MCLEAN, Va.--April 21, 2000--(NYSE:MMS)--MAXIMUS announced today that the City of Chicago, Illinois, has licensed the Company's M4 Internet-enabled fleet management system.Developed by the CSI-MAXIMUS Division, the M4 system will track and automate fleet maintenance activities for the City of Chicago's fleet of more than 12,000 vehicles. This implementation involves 41 separate city departments including: police, fire, water, streets and sanitation, sewers, aviation and transportation.
With the addition of the City of Chicago to the client base, CSI-MAXIMUS fleet management systems will now be used by the four largest cities in the country: New York, Los Angeles, Houston, and Chicago.
The M4 system selected by the City is one of a suite of fleet enterprise applications (FEAi) solutions available from MAXIMUS. These fleet systems take full advantage of Internet connectivity and offer comprehensive fleet maintenance functionality. In addition, they can be integrated with all major ERP systems, such as Oracle(TM) financials, SAP(TM) financials, and PeopleSoft(TM) financials, using standard Company-developed interfaces.
Features of the M4 system include: work order processing, preventive maintenance tracking, parts inventory management, warranty recovery, integrated fuel management, life cycle cost analysis, labor productivity, replacement modeling, motor pool reservation and dispatch and charge back billing. Fleet organizations using M4 have significantly reduced expenses and streamlined operations. Inventory reductions of 40%, increased labor productivity of 10%, and improved warranty recovery of 37% are typical results with this system.
"The City of Chicago was looking for an off-the-shelf total solution that incorporated the best technologies available and the best practices of the industry," said Robert Degnan, Commissioner of fleet management. "We found both in the CSI-MAXIMUS fleet management system."
"This was an intensely competitive award," said Jim Paulits, President of CSI-MAXIMUS Division. "We were competing against IBM, KPMG, and Peregrine -- so this is a major endorsement of our system and our total solution support," he added.
The City has laid out an aggressive, 12-week implementation schedule for the M4 fleet management system, which will run on an Oracle ERP system. To achieve this, CSI-MAXIMUS will employ its Accelerated Implementation Management (AIM) program. In addition, System Development Integration, Inc. (SD I), an enterprise information technology solutions provider, based in Chicago, has been engaged to manage this rapid implementation schedule.
SD I provides strategic information technology planning, project management, business analyses, data modeling, system implementation and integration, change management, training and maintenance services. SD I has completed projects for several City of Chicago departments including Aviation, Revenue, and the Chicago Public Schools.
