Twenty New Penn Drivers Recognized for Million-mile Safety Achievements

    LEBANON, Pa.--April 20, 2000--New Penn Motor Express, Inc., a subsidiary of Arnold Industries, Inc., (Nasdaq:AIND) recently honored 20 drivers who achieved a new safety milestone in 1999.
    Three drivers were recognized for driving two million miles without a preventable accident and 17 drivers were recognized for driving one million miles without a preventable accident.
    The drivers were honored at a series of safety meetings held throughout the company and hosted by senior management.
    New Penn President and CEO, Kenneth F. Leedy stated, "It is a pleasure to recognize the safety achievements of our professional truck drivers. These drivers, members of the Teamsters Union, are among the finest in the industry and they represent themselves, their company and their profession very well. They are living proof that some segments of our industry can and do operate safely."
    New Penn Executive Vice President and COO, Stephen M. O'Kane added, "We are very proud of New Penn's fine safety record and the positive impact it has on the reliability of our service. It is particularly noteworthy that some of our employees have safely driven over one million miles while operating in areas of very heavy traffic congestion in the Northeast."
    New Penn now has a total of 54 employees who have safely driven at least one million miles. Two employees, Richard Lord and Robert Scholl, both of Reading, PA, have driven over three million accident-free miles. Four employees have driven at least two million miles without a preventable accident including Melvin Burlew(1), Camp Hill, PA; Paul Cosner(1), Scranton, PA; Barry Duncker, Camp Hill, PA and Leroy Strauss(1), Lancaster, PA.

    The following New Penn drivers have driven at least one million accident-free miles.
