Toyota Places Order with Mechanical Dynamics For Specialized Software

21 April 2000

Toyota Places $200,000 Order with Mechanical Dynamics For Specialized ADAMS(R)/Engine Simulation Software
ANN ARBOR, Mich., April 19 Toyota Motors (NYSE: TM) has
placed a $200,000 software order with Mechanical Dynamics, Inc.
(Nasdaq: MDII), developer of the market-leading ADAMS(R) mechanical system
simulation software for functional virtual prototyping. The software was
delivered to Toyota during Mechanical Dynamics' first quarter, ended March 31,
2000.
Toyota purchased ADAMS(R)/Engine, a specialized simulation environment
that enables an automotive engineering team to predict, refine, and optimize
the performance of powertrain systems as part of an overall vehicle design.
Toyota is the first auto manufacturer outside the ADAMS/Engine development
consortium to purchase the product.
"Toyota has realized the benefits of functional virtual prototyping with
ADAMS in vehicle design, and we're very pleased that they are now implementing
simulation for powertrain development," said Robert R. Ryan, president and
chief operating officer of Mechanical Dynamics.
ADAMS/Engine, released in August 1999, is the result of a nearly two-year
effort that began when Volkswagen and Audi approached Mechanical Dynamics
about creating a specialized powertrain simulation tool. The consortium of
companies providing guidance on the project later expanded to include French
automaker Renault; Ina, a German manufacturer of bearings and hydraulic lash
adjusters; and IAV, a German company offering powertrain engineering services.
Mechanical Dynamics pioneered the field of mechanical system simulation
with its market-leading ADAMS(R) software, and remains committed to extending
the capabilities of this technology to benefit manufacturers in every industry
worldwide. Engineering teams use ADAMS to build and test functional virtual
prototypes of their complex mechanical system designs. Mechanical Dynamics
also offers extensive implementation services, including consulting and
training. In this way, the company partners with its customers to help reduce
the time, costs, and risks of the product development process and meet the
"Smarter to Market(TM)" challenge.
