Delco Remy International Acquires Polish Rotating Electric Manufacturer
ANDERSON, Ind., April 19 Delco Remy International, Inc.,
(NYSE: RMY) announced today that it has purchased Elmot, the Polish
manufacturer of starters and alternators.
Elmot, established in 1947, is located in Swidnica, Poland and employs
approximately 700 people. The company is QS9000 certified and earned the
supplier of the year award from Fiat in 1999.
Elmot holds a leadership position in Poland for both the aftermarket and
original equipment. The company currently supplies starters and alternators
to Fiat, Daewoo and Ursus and generates about half of its sales from the
aftermarket.
Janusz Szostak, Elmot's president and chairman, states, "We are pleased to
be part of the Delco Remy group and are excited about the new opportunities
for growth as Elmot begins to supply DRI's global customer base."
The Elmot acquisition establishes a manufacturing base for light duty
rotating electrics in Europe and expands DRI's product portfolio. Additional
investment will add new capacity in Elmot to support DRI's growth in Europe.
"Delco Remy intends to significantly grow its European starter and
alternator business," stated Richard Stanley, President of Delco Remy America,
DRI's O.E. subsidiary. "We will supply new business at General Motors Europe
and we will localize the manufacturing of products supplied to Daewoo's
European operations. Poland is a rapidly growing market and Elmot is a great
addition to our low cost, global manufacturing capability."
Delco Remy International, Inc., headquartered in Anderson, Indiana (USA),
became a public company in 1997. The company designs, manufactures,
remanufactures and distributes electrical, powertrain/drivetrain and related
components and provides core exchange service for automobiles and light
trucks, medium and heavy duty trucks and other heavy duty and industrial
applications. Products include starter motors, alternators, engines,
transmissions, torque converter, fuel systems and traction control systems.
The company serves the aftermarket and original equipment manufacturer market,
principally in North America, as well as Europe, Latin America and Asia
Pacific. More information is available on the company web site at
