Texas' Gas Prices Retreat From Record High

    HOUSTON--April 18, 2000--The statewide average price of self-serve regular gasoline decreased by 10 cents a gallon since March, according to a AAA Texas survey. The current Texas statewide average price of a gallon of self-serve regular unleaded is $1.38, compared to $1.48 a gallon only a month ago.
    AAA reports that the average price for self-serve regular unleaded gasoline per gallon is $1.49 nationally. Prices have slipped 5 cents since March when the nationwide price was 1.54 cents a gallon -- the highest average price ever recorded by AAA.
    "OPEC's decision to increase oil production helped push gasoline prices downward. This is welcome news to millions of motorists and commercial drivers as they look toward the summer driving season," says Rose Rougeau, spokesperson for AAA Texas.
    AAA and AAA Texas commission their Fuel Gauge Reports as a service to motorists and the media. The current reports are based on data gathered by the Oil Price Information Service -- the nation's most comprehensive source of petroleum pricing information.
