Enviro Cat Passes Critical Milestone

TORONTO--April 18, 2000--Environmental Solutions Worldwide Inc. (Nasdaq OTC/BB: ESWW) has successfully produced and has begun testing the first prototypes of a new catalytic converter that dramatically reduced the toxic emissions in earlier trials, according to Chief Executive Officer Bengt Odner.
More than 100 "Enviro Cats" were recently produced over a three-week period, allowing the company to confirm the patent-pending technology behind the devices. "This was a critical milestone in our efforts to bring the Enviro Cat to market with full confidence that it can be produced in large numbers," Odner said. "It passed with flying colors, and we are now in the process of moving to the second stage of prototype productions."
Environmental Solutions engineers were seeking validation of a number of technical parameters in the recently completed prototype production. These include, among other things, the mixture of base metals and ceramic compounds, the composition of the raw materials, batch sizes, and various manufacturing processes such as extrusion, in which a raw material is forced through a die under pressure to form a solid object. In the second stage of prototype production, which is expected to last through the end of May, certain parts of the overall manufacturing process will be scaled up.
"Initial tests have demonstrated that Enviro Cats can be produced with consistently high quality and the finished product will operate under all normal operating conditions," Chief Operation Officer Mark Nicole said. "At this stage, prototype production is ahead of schedule." The company plans to make full-size prototypes available to motor vehicle manufacturers, original equipment manufacturers of motor vehicle parts and potential joint venture partners for further testing, according to Mark Nicole. In the final stage of production, the finished catalytic converter is welded onto the exhaust pipe.
Unlike conventional catalytic converters, Enviro Cat contains no precious metals. As a result, it costs substantially less to produce and is expected to have a longer life. Moreover, it may be used in internal combustion engines that burn leaded, unleaded and diesel fuel. In preliminary tests conducted by a laboratory recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency, Enviro Cat dramatically reduced emissions of greenhouse gases, such as nitrous oxide.
