Exide Corporation Appoints Two New Board MembersREADING, Pa., April 17 Exide Corporation (NYSE: EX) announced today it has appointed two new members to its board of directors. They are Lynne V. Cheney, a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research, and Jody G. Miller, a venture partner with Maveron LLC, a Seattle-based venture capital firm. Ms. Cheney is also the author of "Telling The Truth: Why Our Culture and Country Have Stopped Making Sense." From 1986 until 1993 she served as the chairperson for the National Endowment for the Humanities. Her editorials on educational issues appear in numerous publications including The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times. Before joining Maveron, Ms. Miller was acting president and chief operating officer of Americast, a digital video and interactive services partnership of Ameritech, BellSouth, GTE, SNET and the Walt Disney Company. She also served in the White House as special assistant to the President from 1993 to 1995, where she was involved with matters as diverse as healthcare, welfare reform and NAFTA. In addition, Ms. Miller served as legal counsel to Secretary of Education Richard Riley when he was Governor of South Carolina and she has held senior positions with Lehman Brothers and Time Warner. Ms. Cheney has a Ph.D. in 19th Century British Literature from the University of Wisconsin, and M.A. in English from the University of Colorado and a B.A. from Colorado College. Ms. Miller is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law and has a B.A. in psychology from the University of Michigan. The new members join a board of directors and management team that has been totally revamped since the appointment of Robert A. Lutz approximately one year ago. Those changes include the appointment of an entirely new board of directors, the reorganization of the company into Global Business Units and numerous other global management improvements.
