MaterialNet.com Names Regional Vice Presidents - Coverage Includes U.S., Canada and Mexico

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y.--April 17, 2000--Richard Chusid, chief operating officer of MaterialNet.com, (www.materialnet.com), the only business-to-business e-marketplace for the buying and selling of all industrial metals, announced the appointment of eight regional vice presidents as part of the company's strategic expansion plan. MaterialNet.com will thereby enable its customers throughout North America to have ready access to company executives.
"Many people still feel business-to-business on the Internet is impersonal," Chusid said. "We're here to change that perception. Our regional executives are empowered to satisfy all our customers' needs from just-in-time (JIT) delivery to long-term contracts - and virtually any deal in between."
The eight executives, headquartered from New York to Los Angeles, form a strategic, visionary, decision-making team. Joe DiMaggio joined MaterialNet.com as vice president of corporate strategy and sales in New York. Prior to joining the MaterialNet.com team, he handled sales, purchasing and strategic planning for TMX Copper and Brass Sales, in Wallingford, CT, and Davidson Aluminum and Metal Corp., in Deer Park, NY. Also on the East Coast is Jeff Beeton of Massachusetts, formerly with TMX Copper and Brass Sales.
Covering the Midwest region for MaterialNet.com are Keven C. Gray of Ohio, Henry L. Goff of Indiana and Marco Cardenas of Illinois. Gray worked as a procurement manager for Bettcher Industries in Vermillion, OH; Goff was with Beta Steel in Portage, IN and National Steel Corp.; and Cardenas, was a district sales manager for Ryerson Tull, in Chicago, Ill.
The Southwest/West Coast team includes: D. Shane Swift of Colorado, a former sales manager for Pechiney Rolled products; Keith E. Davidson of California, who handled outside sales for Metalwest LLC, and Glen Yon of California. Yon was formerly a general manager for Metal West, in Brighton CO.
"The number of MaterialNet.com buyers and sellers is growing rapidly," Chusid noted. "In just the last week alone, our buyer base surged by 25 percent, and our number of certified suppliers grew by 20 percent. We want our suppliers and buyers, wherever they are, to have easy access to a senior MaterialNet.com executive who knows and understands the metals business."
Since launching its Web site in November 1999, MaterialNet.com has grown from three employees to more than 40, and forecasts that it will have 100 employees before the end of this year. The company has also increased its Certified Supplier Network from an initial base of 47 suppliers to more than 290 suppliers today, representing more than $20 billion in revenue.
