Power Semiconductors From Infineon Win Award At SAE World Congress 2000

MUNICH, Germany--April 17, 2000--At this year's SAE World Congress in Detroit, Michigan/U.S.A, Infineon Technologies received the Tech 2000 Award presented by "Automotive Engineering International" magazine for its "smart switches"- power semiconductors. Anton Mueller, Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Automotive & Industrial at Infineon Technologies, accepted the award from Lawrence Schneider, the publisher of the magazine, and editor-in-chief Daniel Holt. Approximately 1,200 exhibitors participated at the world's largest trade show for automotive technologies drawing about 50,000 attendees from March 6 to March 9. Fifty automotive suppliers received special awards for their innovative products, including two manufacturers of semiconductors.
In the automotive supply industry, Infineon Technologies ranks among the top semiconductor manufacturers worldwide. Many automotive manufacturers now use the prize-winning "smart power switches and bridges" produced by Infineon to switch and protect electrical motors, headlights and other electrical components. They also control electrical engine management and such safety applications as ABS and airbags.
"Our smart power strategy of using silicon instead of heat sinks reduces system costs and supports the trend towards miniaturization," said Anton Mueller. "The highly integrated multi-channel switches set new standards in diagnostic and overload protection."
The integrated circuits reduce board space and lower component count overall. Unsafe conditions such as overload, overheating, open load or short-to-ground are detected early and reported to the microcontroller system.
