Quinn Victorious in Modified Homecoming at the Valley

QUINN VICTORIOUS IN MODIFIED HOMECOMING AT THE VALLEY

WEST LEBANON, NY- A picture perfect spring night welcomed race fans at
Lebanon Valley Saturday night. Matt Quinn made a triumphant return to Lebanon
Valley by winning the 30-lap modified feature. Adam Haas took the victory in
the street stock main. L&M Motors sponsored the opening night action.
Steve Devine and Matt Quinn led the field down to Matt Higgin's green
flag for the start of the modified feature. The caution flag flew before a
lap was even completed as Mike Benson spun in turn two. The rest of the field
managed to miss the Benson car except for Rob Pitcher. Benson was done for
the evening, but Pitcher would return. They were able to get a one lap in
before the next caution for Mike King's spin. Chris Moore and Dick Larkin
were making the move to the front early. They sat second and third
respectively by lap four. Those two drivers would swap positions a lap ten.
Meanwhile, Quinn had checked out on the front of the field. He had opened up
a half-straightaway lead by lap eleven.
John Hewitt was having a strong opening night run. He was running fourth
at the halfway point of the race. Ronnie Johnson and Kenny Tremont were able
to get around Hewitt for fourth and fifth on lap 17. The third caution of the
night came out as Steve Devine sat facing traffic in turn four. This caution
allowed the rest of the field to catch up to Quinn and certainly made the
rest of the race entertaining. Donnie Corellis used the caution on lap 18 to
go pitside with problems on the right front.
Larkin began to pressure Quinn for the lead on the restart. Quinn drifted
high in turn four and Larkin was able to make the pass for the lead. Quinn
was not to be denied as he passed Larkin back on lap 22. Right behind the
leaders there was a great three-way battle for the third spot. Moore had his
hands full with Johnson and Tremont knocking on his rear bumper. Quinn held a
comfortable lead as he crossed the finish line for the victory. Larkin was
very impressive in his new mount, as was Moore who finished third. Johnson
held on to fourth and Tremont rounded out the top five. Hewitt finished sixth
with Rich Ricci Jr seventh, Dave Leckonby eighth and Eddie Marshall ninth.
Rounded out the top five.
The street stocks opened their 2000 season with a 20-lap feature. Ted
Teal led the field for the first four laps of the race. Al Blackburn made the
pass for the lead and he held the top spot until lap seven. A caution flag
slowed the field on that lap and Adam Haas was able to make the pass for
first on the restart. The was some good side by side racing in the top five
between Blackburn, the Duzlak's and Jim Lagenback. Butch Irwin saw his night
end on lap eleven as smoke poured from the car.
Ricky Duzlak saw a great top five run end when he tagged the wall in turn
two on lap 14. Duzlak's car came to a stop in turn three and the caution flag
flew for the second and final time. Rob Yetman suffered mechanical
difficulties in the later stages of the race and would not be a factor. The
top four cars pulled away from the rest of the field with three laps
remaining. Bob Duzlak suffered a right rear flat tire on lap 17. The filed
stayed nose to tail for the remainder of the event. Haas took home the first
feature on the year, he was followed across the line by Al Blackburn,
Lagenback, Todd Goldstein and Danny Sanchez.
