ZAPPY Earth Day, California

ZAPPY Earth Day, CaliforniaEV Company Tours State During Earth Week 2000 to Campaign for 'Car-Free Day' September 22 SEBASTOPOL, Calif., April 14 A recent San Francisco Chronicle comic strip probably sums it up best, the irony of gas-guzzling SUVs in an era of rising gas prices. To save money on gas, Farley's clairvoyant 'cyberswami' Baba trades in his 'global warmer' for a ZAPPY(R) folding electric scooter. Perhaps the ZAPPY from California electric vehicle manufacturer ZAPWORLD.COM (OTC Bulletin Board: ZAPP) could one day replace sports utility vehicles (SUVs) as America's transportation of choice. ZAP is hoping to make that a reality and in honor of Earth Day 2000 the company is launching a campaign to make September 22 California's "Car-Free Day" when drivers would leave their cars at home and take mass transit or some other form of alternative transportation, including electric bikes, to work. As part of its campaign, the Sebastopol electric vehicle manufacturer is sponsoring a "ZAP California" tour in a unique human-electric hybrid commute vehicle called the Leitra. The experimental electric bicycle, followed by a traveling exhibition of electric bicycles, scooters and other electric vehicles, will leave Sacramento on April 14, arriving in Los Angeles on Earth Day, April 22. Along the way, the tour will visit various Earth Day celebrations to offer test rides, educate the public and raise awareness about other forms of alternative transportation. With Earth Day just around the corner, Farley creator Phil Frank is planning more fun with the ZAPPY. Frank says that today's San Francisco Chronicle will include another installment of the ZAPPY and that an additional one will appear on Sunday, April 16. (View the comic at http://www.zapworld.com/zapcalifornia.) Piloted by environmentalist and world record endurance champion Mhyee (pronounced 'me') the Leitra is akin to a bicycle but rides on three wheels, the rider sitting in a reclined, or recumbent, position. Pedal power combines with ZAP's patented motor system to create what ZAP calls a "human-electric hybrid." The bike only uses about six cents worth of electricity to travel ranges from 10 to 30 miles depending on terrain while achieving an equivalent fuel efficiency of approximately 1000 miles per gallon compared to gasoline-with zero tailpipe emissions. The bike can reach a top-speed of 20 MPH. Follow the ZAP California Tour online by visiting http://www.zapworld.com/zapcalifornia. The site includes the original "Farley" comic strip, a map and schedule of the tour, daily road reports from cyclist Mhyee, as well as further information about international "Car-Free Day" and the Leitra human-electric hybrid commute vehicle. ZAPWORLD.COM, or ZAP, pioneered the emerging electric bike market in 1994 and today has delivered more than 40,000 electric bikes, kits, scooters and other forms of zero-emission vehicles to commuters and recreational cyclists worldwide. The Northern California company is publicly owned with stock trading under the symbol ZAPP. For ordering, dealer, or shareholder information, visit http://www.zapworld.com or call 800-251-4555.
