Broadband Digital Group Speeds Ahead With Patrick Racing Team; FreeDSL Provider to Sponsor Racing Veteran Roberto Moreno at Long Beach Grand Prix
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.--April 13, 2000--Continuing its dedication to bringing high speeds to enthusiastic consumers, FreeDSL provider Broadband Digital Group (BDG) today announced a long-term marketing alliance with Patrick Racing, a team competing in the Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART) FedEx Championship Series. The alliance will launch with the sponsorship of the Visteon/Patrick Racing entry of driver Roberto Moreno at the 26th Annual Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach on April 16."FreeDSL lets our customers connect to the Internet at high speeds, and since auto racing is all about speed, it's a great venue for our brand," said Ryan Steelberg, president of Broadband Digital Group. "The racing fan demographics make this sponsorship an excellent vehicle for reaching a broad audience, and we look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship with Patrick Racing."
Patrick Racing, now in its 28th year of competition, is one of the most successful teams in open-wheel racing with 41 victories, three Indianapolis 500 wins and two national championships. Team owner U.E. "Pat" Patrick is the co-founder of CART and the "father" of the Dayton Indy Lights Championship Series.
The FedEx Championship Series has continued to gain popularity throughout the United States in recent years, generating large crowds for CART-sanctioned events. For example, the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach is expected to attract more than 225,000 racing fans this weekend.
"We are pleased to have BDG join the Patrick Racing family as an associate sponsor on the #20 Visteon/Patrick Racing Ford-Cosworth entry driven by Roberto Moreno," said U. E. "Pat" Patrick. "Sponsorship is the backbone of our sport, and it is imperative that we have companies like BDG involved. With the emergence of the 'new' economy, we are proud to be one of the first teams in CART racing to have significant sponsorship from a broadband pioneer like BDG."
About Roberto Moreno
Roberto Moreno, who has 62 CART starts to his credit, is in his seventh CART season, but will compete in the full season for just the third time. Best known as "Super-sub" for his ability to take over for injured drivers and perform at a very high level, Moreno is coming off a highly productive 1999 season. He began the year without a CART ride, but went on to distinguish himself during stints as a replacement driver for the injured Mark Blundell (eight starts for PacWest Racing Group producing the team's top results) and Christian Fittipaldi (five starts for Newman/Haas Racing). Moreno scored points in six of his eight starts for PacWest, topped by fourth place finishes at Gateway and Toronto. His stint with Newman/Haas was highlighted by a CART career-best second place finish at Laguna Seca. Moreno scored points in eight of 13 starts and finished a career-best 14th in the championship standings with 58 points.
