IMPCO Technologies, Industrial Engine Systems Division (IES), and Daewoo
Heavy Industries, Ltd. have signed a long term Supply Agreement. In this
Agreement IES will supply Daewoo with General Motors base Industrial 3.0L and
4.3L engines that are engineered and packaged by IMPCO Industrial Engine
Systems Division, located in Sterling Heights, Michigan. The engine system
packages will include a full range of LPG, gasoline and dual-fuel systems.
Dennis Hartman, Vice President and General Manager of the Gaseous Fuel
Products Division, said, "Daewoo has long been recognized as a leader in their
industry. Their level of product quality demanded a powertrain supplier with
equal capability on a global basis. The IES division is key to Daewoo's
long-term marketing and product strategy, and is well positioned to take
advantage of IES's low-emission expertise which will give Daewoo a tremendous
market advantage."
Brad Garner, IES Managing Director, said, "This is an important step by
Daewoo to move from a component and commodity view of powertrains to a system
integration approach. As the (material handling) industry begins to
incorporate low-emission forklifts into its product line in order to comply
with new 2001 government regulations, OEMs will find that purchasing engines
as commodities simply won't fulfill their market strategies or profitability
requirements. Daewoo is an excellent company that is poised for tremendous
growth in the world market, and we (IES) are pleased to be part of their
global approach."
