Oshkosh Truck Named to Fortune 1000; Added to S&P SmallCap 600 Index

OSHKOSH, Wis.--April 11, 2000--Oshkosh Truck Corporation was recognized in two major corporate listings in one week.
Oshkosh made the Fortune 1000 list for 2000, which appears in the April 17 issue of Fortune Magazine. In addition, Oshkosh was added to Standard & Poor's SmallCap 600 Index, representing the truck and parts industry.
Oshkosh officials attribute the recognition to the company's record performance in revenue and net income. The company increased revenues from $413.5 million in fiscal 1996 to $1.165 billion in fiscal 1999, or 30 percent CAGR. In fiscal 1999 alone, Oshkosh's net income grew 107 percent on revenues that increased 29 percent.
"It's no longer a secret. Oshkosh Truck Corporation is one of the country's largest truck and truck body manufacturers," said Robert G. Bohn, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Oshkosh. "Because Oshkosh builds specialty vehicles, our brands may not be well known outside our industries, but we are market leaders in the substantial majority of the markets we serve."
"We're delighted that our strong performance, particularly in revenue growth, has earned us this coveted spot on the Fortune 1000. Fortune's list is one of the most respected measures for corporate performance and long-term shareholder value."
Oshkosh officials were particularly proud of its ranking as it relates to stock performance. Within the 24 companies in the Fortune 1000's Motor Vehicles and Parts category, Oshkosh ranked second in return to investors in 1999 with 34 percent. In addition, the company's ability to drive profits contributed to it being ranked third in terms of profit growth in 1999 among the companies in the Motor Vehicles and Parts category.
Since 1996, Oshkosh has pursued a strategy of diversification, acquisitions, and aggressive development of new products and distribution. The company purchased Pierce Manufacturing Inc., the leader in custom fire apparatus, in September 1996, and completed the acquisition of McNeilus Companies, Inc., a leading manufacturing of concrete mixers, refuse truck bodies, and concrete batch plants, in February 1998.
"We have worked hard to build a stable performance record, and inclusion in S&P's SmallCap 600 Index recognizes our success in that area," continued Bohn.
Fortune Magazine's Fortune 1000 list represents the top 1,000 largest revenue companies and is divided into industry groups. The Standard & Poor's SmallCap 600 Index measures stock performance of the small company segment of the U.S. market. Approximately $800 billion is indexed to the S&P SmallCap 600.
Oshkosh Truck Corporation is a leading manufacturer of specialty trucks and truck bodies for the defense, fire and emergency, concrete placement and refuse hauling markets. Products are marketed under the Oshkosh, Pierce and McNeilus brand names. The company is headquartered in Oshkosh, Wis., and has annual sales of $1.165 billion.
