Visteon Selects Product Life-Cycle Management With mySAP.com

    WALLDORF, Germany--April 11, 2000--

SAP PLM Empowers More Than 6,000 Users at Visteon
To Improve Product Designs and Bring Products to Market Faster

SAP AG , the leading provider of inter-enterprise software solutions, today announced that Visteon Automotive Systems, a $17 billion automotive components and systems supplier, has selected SAP(TM) Product Lifecycle Management (SAP PLM), an integrated business application within mySAP.com(TM), for managing the complete product life cycle of the extended supply chain from design and production through sales and maintenance.
The implementation of SAP PLM will enable more than 6,000 users at Visteon to collaborate on product design, manufacturing and service within Visteon as well as with external trading partners.
"To maintain a competitive edge in the automotive industry, a fine-tuned supply chain is absolutely essential," said Richard Smith, manager of Enterprise Engineering Projects at Visteon Automotive Systems. "We've selected SAP PLM to achieve greater control and accuracy over the product life cycle, bring products to market faster and, ultimately, improve product designs to better satisfy our customers' needs."
The SAP PLM solution at Visteon will ensure that employees can access and engage the information they need at any time and from any place, enabling them to work in a truly collaborative fashion. For example, using the SAP PLM solution, an employee in the engineering department at Visteon can create and enter a product description into mySAP.com. Once a customer places an order for this product, whether from Detroit or Paris, a production order is created within mySAP.com for a plant in that locale. If, on receiving the order, the local production engineer needs information about the physical characteristics of the product or the manufacturing process before coordinating production, he or she will be able to use an Internet browser to access mySAP.com and obtain graphical and textual information about the product through SAP PLM. As a result of this real-time collaboration, two engineers in distant locations will be able to create improved product designs and ultimately help Visteon deliver products to market at an accelerated rate.
"To succeed in the new economy, companies need to effectively collaborate in real time on all aspects of the product with their employees, customers and business partners," said Claus E. Heinrich, member of the executive board of SAP AG. "Product Lifecycle Management with mySAP.com enables this collaboration between a company and its partners by providing direct, inter-enterprise, role-based access to relevant information and business processes via the Internet."
