Jim Hutzler earns AMA Dud Perkins Award
PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- James Hutzler of Suisan City, Calif., has earned the
American Motorcyclist Association's (AMA) highest award for exemplary
service to the Association.
Hutzler received the AMA's Dud Perkins Award in recognition of his 20-plus
years of tireless work for the Association. Besides working as a district
officer in AMA District 36 (Northern California-Northwestern Nevada), he
has served as a delegate to the AMA Congress since 1977. He also was
elected to the Congress Off-Road Division Executive Committee in 1998 and
again in 1999.
Carl Reynolds, a current AMA trustee and immediate past chairman of the
AMA Board, presented the award to Hutzler earlier this month at the
honoree's home. Hutzler is confined to his home due to a serious illness.
"It's an honor to be able to present this award to him," Reynolds said.
"In addition to being a personal friend for more than 20 years, Jim has
been a lifetime friend of the AMA and motorcycling," Reynolds said. "He
has served the Association in many capacities, and served it well."
The Dud Perkins Award was established in 1971 and first presented to its
namesake. It is named after a San Francisco motorcycle dealer who embodied
tireless and generous dedication to every aspect of motorcycling. The
award's purpose is the acknowledge the highest level of service to the
Association in any area of activity.
Hutzler at one time worked for Perkins at the San Francisco dealership.
