Ward's Reports Estimated Production

    SOUTHFIELD, Mich., April 7 Vehicle production this week in
the U.S., Canada and Mexico is expected to hit an estimated 388,846 units,
down from the 389,102 cars and trucks built last week, according to Ward's
Automotive Reports.
    Including this week's estimates, calendar year North American output now
totals 5,222,163 vehicles, up 6.4 percent from like-1999's pace.
    In the U.S., automakers are expected to produce 286,934 vehicles this
week, an increase of 1.0 percent from the 284,074 cars and trucks built last
week.  To date, calendar 2000 U.S. vehicle output totals an estimated
3,822,898 units, up 5.9 percent from the 3,610,430 vehicles built in like-
1999.
    This week's Canadian vehicle production is estimated at 68,107, a 1.4
percent increase from the 67,194 units assembled last week.  Estimated
calendar-2000 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 923,443 units, up 5.8
percent from the 872,770 vehicles produced in like-1999.
    Of the cars and trucks slated for production this week in the U.S.,
General Motors Corp. accounted for 34.0 percent; Ford Motor Co., 28.5 percent;
Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 15.9 percent; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 4.8
percent; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 4.3 percent; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 2.4
percent; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 2.8 percent; Subaru-Isuzu Automotive Inc.,
1.6 percent; AutoAlliance International Inc., 1.1 percent; Mitsubishi Motor
Mfg. of America Inc., 1.2 percent; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of DaimlerChrysler, 0.6
percent; BMW of North America Inc., 0.5 percent; and other manufacturers, 2.3
percent.
