Governor Patton Honors Gallatin Steel for Amazing Safety Record

GHENT, Ky.--April 6, 2000--Gallatin Steel's outstanding safety record has always been a point of pride for the Ghent steelmaker. Now, Kentucky Governor Paul Patton has recognized the company as a role model for employers across the state.
On April 13th, a representative from the Kentucky Labor Cabinet will present the associates of Gallatin Steel with the 1999-2000 Governor's Occupational Safety and Health Award in a ceremony at the plant. The award honors the associates for working almost two million hours without a single lost-time accident.
Governor Patton said, "It's always my pleasure to commend an organization for protecting its most important assets - its associates. Gallatin Steel has done an incredible job, and their safety efforts should stand as an example to other employers across the Commonwealth."
"Safe practices are integrated to every job, every task, everything we do at Gallatin Steel," said Don B. Daily, Gallatin Steel's Vice President and General Manager. "We spend hours of training and thousands of dollars to make sure all who work here or visit the plant have a safe experience day in and day out. This award is a direct result of that significant investment."
"Safety has been the highest priority at Gallatin Steel since day one," said Butch P. Collins, Safety Director at Gallatin Steel. "It's the first thing we talk about every day - we have a team that's genuinely concerned with working safely. And receiving this award is particularly significant for a company like Gallatin Steel that's only been around for five years."
The Governor's Occupational Safety and Health Awards were created by the Kentucky Labor Cabinet to reduce illness and injury in the workplace and to celebrate the accomplishments of companies with outstanding safety records. The award presentations are made in conjunction with the Annual Governor's Safety and Health Conference and Exposition, which will be held May 10-12, 2000 in Louisville.
