CERRITOS, Calif., April 5 American Isuzu Motors Inc.
(AIMI) today announced the best March commercial vehicle retail and wholesale
sales for the month of March in the company's history. The exceptionally
strong March numbers also contributed to AIMI posting the best first quarter
sales performance in the company's history. March AIMI retail sales figures
of 2489 units gave Isuzu's commercial vehicle division's year-to-date sales
figures a 26% increase over 1999 year-to-date numbers. The mainstay of the
light duty Isuzu lineup, the NPR diesel improved a full 50% over 1999 March
retail figures. On the dealer front, the Northern region had a stunning month
with the entire Isuzu commercial vehicle lineup posting an impressive
79% increase over 1999 year-to-date retail sales figures.
The successful March figures for AIMI badged trucks was reinforced by
record setting combined network sales figures (AIMI & GM) of 3582 units. In
fact General Motors had the best month in the company's history with W-Series
retail truck sales breaking the 1000 unit mark for the first time. The
impressive results were lead by W5500 retail sales that are up 132% and WT5500
numbers that ran 113% over 1999 March figures. The end result has GM W-Series
retail and fleet year-to-date sales figures running 56% over last years
numbers for the same period.
"We are extremely pleased with the performance of our entire commercial
vehicle organization. Isuzu's strong product acceptance and the excellent
relationship between Isuzu, our dealers and customers is the key to how
successful the first quarter of 2000 has been," said Jim Underwood, Senior
Vice President, COO, Commercial Vehicle. "We are also extremely please by the
results that GM has had with the W-Series trucks.
