Autoweb.com Places New Gasoline-Electric Hybrid Vehicle on its Auction SiteNew Car Auction Gives Consumers the Chance to Own Revolutionary Honda Insight SANTA CLARA, Calif., April 5 Autoweb.com, Inc. , the leading consumer automotive Internet service, today announced placement of a Honda Insight in its recently launched new car auction area. The Honda Insight is the first gasoline-electric hybrid vehicle to be sold in the United States and has won the Sierra Club's Excellence in Environmental Engineering Award. The Honda Insight is one of several novel vehicles that Autoweb.com is promoting to drive traffic to its auction area. "Our new car auctions are proving to be a fun way for consumers to get the hottest new cars that are often difficult to find," said Norm Turner, general manager of auctions at Autoweb.com. "We introduced the first risk-free used car auctions in October 1999, and now we're giving consumers more ways to buy a car by expanding the auction model to new vehicles. Promoting the most popular, hard to find vehicles on our home page has increased traffic to our auctions area by 66 percent and has been an exciting way to introduce consumers to this new approach to buying a car." The Honda Insight made news earlier this year as the first gasoline-electric hybrid vehicle sold in the United States. It achieves 70 miles per gallon and is equipped with advanced ultra-low emissions technology. The Honda Insight has received multiple awards, including one from the Sierra Club for "Excellence in Environmental Engineering," the first time the organization has given an award for a product in its 108-year history. Visitors to Autoweb.com have until April 14th to bid on the vehicle. The opening bid for the Honda Insight is $22,000, and the manufacturer's suggested retail price is $20,080. Autoweb.com has recently featured other uncommon vehicles in its auction area, including a 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser, a 1998 Dodge Viper and a Honda Odyssey. Other popular models will be promoted in the upcoming months.
