BMW Reports Best First Quarter in History; BMW Year-to-Date Sales Up 19 PercentWOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J., April 4 BMW of North America, Inc. reported record first quarter sales of 42,789 vehicles, compared to 35,808 sold a year ago, an increase of 19 percent. Monthly vehicle sales increased 14 percent to 16,516 compared to 14,527 in 1999. March sales of BMW automobiles increased 5 percent, to 15,187 compared to 14,527 last year. Year-to-date automobile sales increased 16 percent, to 41,460 compared to 35,808 in 1999. The company also reported sales of 1,329 BMW X5 Sports Activity Vehicles in March and year-to-date sales of 3,243 SAVs. BMW's 5 Series sedan sales were especially strong in March, with an increase of 37 percent reported. The company also reported first quarter sales of 10,461 Certified Pre-owned (CPO) BMWs, more than twice the 4,432 sales reported for the same period a year ago. March CPO sales set records, too, with 4,264 vehicles reported, an increase of 126 percent of March 1999. BMW IN AMERICA BMW entered the U.S. market in 1975.
