Valeo Unisia Transmissions: the Company is Operational

    PARIS--April 4, 2000--

Valeo today announced the final signing of its joint venture
in Japan with Unisia Jecs: Valeo Unisia Transmissions

    The company is dedicated to the design, development, production and sale of clutches, components and systems for manual and automatic transmissions.
    Valeo is the majority shareholder in the joint venture with a 66 % stake. Manufacturing is located at an existing plant with 230 employees in Atsugi-Shi, near Tokyo.
    Commenting on the final signing, Noel Goutard, Chairman and CEO of Valeo, stated, "Valeo's first industrial investment in Japan is being implemented as planned. This comes at just the right time, since Japanese vehicle sales are on the upswing. Our other investment plans in this country are progressing rapidly."

It currently has 22 production plants worldwide, including in South Korea, India and China. Valeo Unisia Transmissions strengthens the Group's position in Asia in this field.
