Environmental Solutions Allowed U.S. Patent Application on Spark Plug
RICHMOND HILL, Ontario--April 4, 2000--Environmental Solutions Worldwide Inc. (Nasdaq OTC/BB: ESWW) is pleased to announce that their U.S. patent application has been allowed on a new, highly efficient spark plug, which has the potential to dramatically increase efficiency of internal combustion engines and thus reduce toxic emissions while boosting fuel economy."This patent grant is a milestone for the company," says Bengt Odner, CEO. "We are now in a position to begin searching for a strategic partner from among manufacturers. We also plan to produce additional prototypes for further testing in preparation for bringing our product to markets in early 2001."
The titanium, directly fuel-injected spark plug produces 46,000 volts. By comparison, trucks and passenger vehicles currently operating worldwide which are equipped with spark plugs produce around 23,000 volts. The substantially increased operating temperature means that about 80% of the fuel injected into the vehicle's combustion chamber will be burned, versus 30%, as is the case with conventional spark plugs.
"Not only does this new spark plug drastically reduce emissions by burning fuel more efficiently at a much higher temperature but it also greatly increases fuel economy," Odner says. "Automobile and truck manufacturers are seeking ways to reduce toxic emissions so that they can meet increasingly stringent environmental standards, and this new spark plug has the potential to make major a contribution to that effort." Environmental Solutions Worldwide already had a Canadian patent on the spark plug. With the U.S. patent application allowed, the company plans to seek patent protection from other countries as well.
In February, the company applied for a U.S. patent on a new catalytic converter call "Enviro-Cat" that has been shown to reduce toxic emissions, including greenhouse gases such as nitrous oxide, and it costs much less to produce because it contains no precious metals. In environmental tests conducted by a laboratory recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency, Enviro-Cat eliminated more than 95% of nitrogen oxide emissions and more than 75% of carbon monoxide.
