Delphi Automotive Executive to Chair Automotive Restraints CouncilWASHINGTON, March 31 Lon Offenbacher, Product Line Director of Occupant Protection Systems for Delphi Interior Systems, was elected Chairman of the Automotive Occupant Restraints Council (AORC), an international organization representing manufacturers and suppliers of automotive air bags, seat belts and seating. Delphi Interior Systems, a division of Delphi Automotive Systems, is a full system integrator with advanced capabilities in occupant protection systems, steering wheels, and cockpit and door modules -- selling throughout the world. Delphi is the leading supplier of interior systems and the only major supplier of both interior systems and occupant protection systems. "It is an honor for me to lead the Council as our industry faces new opportunities and complex challenges in producing the world's most technically advanced automotive occupant restraint systems, focused on saving lives and reducing injuries," Offenbacher said. "Our emphasis at AORC will be to continue to educate government, media and motorists concerning occupant restraint systems. We will present the industry's views on legislative and regulatory proposals affecting the development and proper use of occupant restraint systems," Offenbacher added. A native of Dayton, Ohio, Offenbacher received a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from Purdue University and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Dayton. He also received a degree from the American Graduate School of International Management. He started his automotive career with General Motors' former Inland Division in Ohio. He went on to hold positions of increasing responsibility including project engineer, senior project engineer, senior sales engineer, staff sales engineer and sales manager. In 1987 Offenbacher was sponsored by General Motors as a Congressional Fellow and served on the House Ways and Means staff. He is on the board of directors for Simula, Inc., a safety components company based in Phoenix, Ariz. Offenbacher has three children and is an active soccer and Little League coach. He resides in Rochester Hills, Mich.
