ALMS: BMW Team PTG fourth and sixth in GT qualifying

BMW Team PTG notes:  provisional qualifying, March 30
American Le Mans Series Grand Prix of Charlotte, Lowe's Motor Speedway
race two of 12, American Le Mans Series

BMW Team PTG qualified fourth and sixth on the provisional GT
grid for Saturday's race.  Hans Stuck qualified the new 2001 #6
BMW M3 fourth in class in one minute, 16.399 seconds (106.022
mph).  Peter Cunningham was sixth  in the #10 M3 (1:16.529, 
105.842 mph).

"This is the first time the new car beats the old car, that's good. 
The car was oversteering and we did some small modifications on
the first practice, which worked.  I'm fine, I did altogether 20 laps
only, but I don't need much time to get used to it."

Peter Cunningham, driver, #10 BMW M3

"We've been pretty with how the weekend's going.  Our car is
handling really well.  I don't think I did the best job maximizing the
lap that I took.  Since we have to start the race on these tires, I
would have had to have done it [fastest time] on that lap.  But I
think we'll be okay.  We've got another chance to try it and maybe
we can improve tomorrow."

"The M3 has a number of strengths, one of which is its handling
through the corners.  We've focussed our attention on trying to
improve that wherever we can.  We've brought three different
developmental compounds to this race to try to get some infield
speed through the corners.  It seems to be working:  We've got
better speed through the corners than the other cars."

triple duty

BMW Team PTG driver Peter Cunningham has a busy race
weekend planned.  In addition to driving the #10 BMW M3 in the
American Le Mans Series, he will also drive a BMW 328is in the
Speedvision World Challenge GT race.  And he is the owner of
RealTime Racing, which will field five cars in the Speedvision
World Challenge Touring Car championship this weekend.
