Con-Way Western Express Enhances Wyoming Direct Service With Opening of New Service Center in Casper

CASPER, Wyo.--March 30, 2000--Con-Way Western Express (CWX), a component company of Con-Way Transportation Services (CON-WAY), announced the expansion of its direct service operations with the opening of a new service center facility in Casper, Wyoming on March 6. The company leased the 9,000 square foot building on I-25 at 2000 East "F" Street.
CWX, a regional less-than-truckload freight carrier for commercial and industrial shippers based in Buena Park, CA, cited growing business volume as the reason for opening the new facility. With increased freight handling capacity in Casper, CWX's next-day direct service will be extended to the outlying Wyoming markets of Gillette, Douglas, Riverton and Thermopolis. Next-day direct service will also be available to markets in Colorado and Billings, MT. Two-day service is available to the South, Midwest and Northeast.
In 1999, CWX opened a facility in Casper as a zone operation. "We establish `zones' where there is business to warrant service, but not enough to justify a staffed service center," said "Chip" Boone, president and chief executive officer of CWX. "So we only provide pickup and delivery service in the immediate area. But in the short time that Casper has been open, business has grown to such an extent that it was necessary to open a staffed facility. Now that we have more direct service points in Wyoming and Colorado, we can assure those customers of the same high CON-WAY standards from pick-up to final delivery of their shipments," added Boone.
The new service center opened with six employees. The building includes 5,000 square feet of docking capacity with 10 dock doors.
Tom Johnson is the service center manager of the new facility. Johnson is a Casper native and has worked in freight transportation for 20 years in a variety of sales and managerial positions. He joined CWX in late 1999.
CWX is an operating component company of Con-Way Transportation Services, a $1.9 billion transportation management company that provides time-definite and day-definite freight delivery and logistics services for commercial and industrial businesses. Within the Con-Way family are regional less-than-truckload carriers Con-Way Central Express, Con-Way Southern Express and Con-Way Western Express; Con-Way Truckload Services, providing multi-modal, full truckload shipping; Con-Way NOW, an expedited carrier specializing in emergency shipment service; and Con-Way Integrated Services, a contract supply chain execution service provider.
CON-WAY is a subsidiary of Palo Alto, California-based CNF, a $5.6 billion management company of global supply chain services with businesses in regional trucking, air freight, ocean freight, customs brokerage, global logistics management and trailer manufacturing.
