    TROY, Mich., March 30 Collins & Aikman Corporation
today announced a series of strategic internal promotions and
appointments that strengthen the Company's executive management team and
position the firm for continued success.  Thomas E. Evans, Chairman and Chief
Executive Officer of Collins & Aikman made the announcements.

    Rajesh K. Shah, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, has
now assumed the additional responsibility of overseeing the Company's global
information technology (IT) function, including design and implementation of
IT solutions that support both the Company's financial and manufacturing
operations.  "Raj's extensive involvement with the Company's restructuring and
reengineering initiatives on the corporate, divisional and plant levels make
him uniquely qualified to direct Collins & Aikman's global IT function and to
continue making the business process improvements needed to fully capitalize
on our restructuring programs", stated Evans.
    Shah is a CPA who holds a bachelor's degree in Commerce from the
University of Bombay and an MBA in Finance from Bowling Green University.
    Jonathan L. Peisner, Senior Vice President of Communications and Investor
Relations, will now have the additional responsibility for overseeing the
Company's business planning function including merger and acquisition
activity, market analysis and coordination of the Company's strategic planning
process.
    Commenting on the appointment, Evans stated, "Peisner's proven track
record, leadership skills and strong financial and automotive background make
him a natural to take on a larger role at Collins & Aikman."  Peisner is a CPA
who holds a Bachelors degree in Accounting from Michigan State University and
an MBA in Finance from Wayne State University.
    Greg L. Tinnell has been appointed Senior Vice President of Human
Resources.  Tinnell will report directly to Chairman and CEO Tom Evans and he
will also serve on the Company's Strategy Board.
    Tinnell previously was Vice President of Human Resources for Collins &
Aikman's Southern and Mexican Operations as well as Vice President of Global
Compensation & Benefits.  Tinnell joined Collins & Aikman in 1995 and prior to
working for Collins & Aikman, he served in various human resource management
positions with Sara Lee Corporation, Nabisco Foods Group and North American
Refactories Company.
    "Tinnell has played a key role in the successful transformation of Collins
& Aikman from a North American textile company to a global automotive
supplier.  With his strong background in compensation and benefits, global
restructuring experience, and his proven leadership skills, Tinnell is
uniquely qualified to head up the Company's global human resources
organization," commented Evans.
    Tinnell holds an undergraduate degree in Business Administration from
Fairmont State College and received his MBA in Accounting from Waynesburg
College.  In addition, he holds a Certified Employee Benefits Specialist
designation from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business.
Tinnell and his family will be relocating from Charlotte, North Carolina to
the Metropolitan Detroit area.
    Charles G. Nichols has been appointed Corporate Treasurer reporting
directly to Rajesh K. Shah, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial
Officer.  Commenting on the appointment, Shah stated, "I'm extremely pleased
to have Nichols heading up the global treasury function for Collins & Aikman.
His broad experience in commercial lending, international banking and
corporate finance is a key strategic asset for us as we continue to lower our
global cost structure."
    Nichols, who joined Collins & Aikman in 1993 after a career in corporate
and commercial lending, was previously the Company's Assistant Treasurer.  He
has also served as Assistant Treasurer - International Operations and as
Manager of Capital Markets.
    Nichols holds an undergraduate degree in Economics from Duke University
and an MBA in Finance from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University
of North Carolina.  He and his family will be relocating from Charlotte, North
Carolina to the Metropolitan Detroit area.
    Evans continued, "These executive appointments represent yet one more step
in the strengthening of our management team as we continue to build Collins &
