Lear Corporation Earns Top Recognition With Two World Excellence Awards from Ford

SOUTHFIELD, Mich., March 30 Lear Corporation
has earned two World Excellence Awards for superior performance in 1999 from
the Ford Motor Company.
The annual award is the automaker's highest supplier recognition honoring
suppliers for superior performance based on quality, cost and delivery metrics
that were jointly developed by Ford and its suppliers.
At Ford's award ceremony earlier this week, Lear was presented with Ford's
Gold Award in the seating components category, the only category for
recognition of performance by interior suppliers. Lear was one of only 11
suppliers who received Gold Awards. The Gold Award is given to the business
units of suppliers that excel in all three of the key performance areas of
quality, cost and delivery.
Lear also received Ford's Recognition of Achievements Award for impacting
customer satisfaction through leadership in the Warranty Reduction Program.
The recognition of Lear's efforts also was accompanied by a check for $156,000
for warranty reduction in interior trim and another check for $151,000 for
warranty savings from the Lear Electronic and Electric Division.
"Lear is part of an exclusive world-class club of Ford's top suppliers.
Lear made extraordinary contributions to Ford that helped make 1999 a very
successful year," said Carlos Mazzorin, the Ford Group Vice President of
Global Purchasing and South America. "Ford's quest for excellence cannot be
accomplished without our supplier partners and performance like this deserves
to be recognized."
"These prestigious awards from Ford are a tribute to the tremendous amount
of work by Lear employees who work in partnership with Ford to ensure that
Lear's world-class products and innovations enhance customer satisfaction,"
said Lear Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Kenneth L. Way. "It is a great
honor to be recognized by one of our most important customers as we advance
relentlessly in serving all of our customers."
Lear Corporation, a Fortune 200 company headquartered in Southfield,
Michigan, USA, is the one of the world's largest automotive suppliers, with
1999 sales of $12.4 billion. The company's world-class products are designed,
