The Automotive & Transportation Interiors Expo Announces Scholarship Winners
More Than $54,000 in Scholarships Awarded to Date

ATLANTA, March 29 Three of the nation's leading colleges
and universities with automotive interior design and engineering programs will
be recipients of scholarships raised in conjunction with the 7th annual
Automotive & Transportation Interiors Expo scheduled for May 16-18, 2000, at
Detroit's Cobo Center. In the past six years, scholarships have totaled more
than $54,000, helping 21 students in 12 colleges and universities pursue
careers in automotive interior fields.
The three scholarship recipient schools this year are: The Center for
Creative Studies, Fiber Design Program in Detroit, Michigan; North Carolina
State University, College of Textiles in Raleigh, North Carolina; and Oakland
University, Department of Engineering and Computer Science in Rochester,
Michigan.
Automotive & Transportation Interiors magazine has sponsored the
scholarship program for six years. Its publisher, Gary DeHart said, "We are
very pleased with the institutions we have selected this year. They provide
programs and nurture students who will be the next generation of designers,
engineers and managers in the automotive interiors' field."
    The magazine guarantees a minimum $2,000 scholarship for each school;
however, according to DeHart, the awards proceeds have usually exceeded that
amount. DeHart explained that the funds are raised from the magazine's Awards
Banquet scheduled for May 16 and its third annual Golf Classic to be played at
Tanglewood Golf Club on May 15.
The sixth annual Automotive & Transportation Interiors Awards Banquet will
be held on Tuesday, May 16 at the Atheneum Suite Hotel in Detroit. There will
be a reception from 5:30-6:30 p.m. with the banquet and presentations to
follow until 9 p.m. This year's banquet keynote speaker is Gonzalo Bustillos,
director of business development and marketing, emerging technologies group,
Microsoft Corporation. The cost is $125 a ticket. Tables and sponsorships
are available.
The third annual Automotive & Transportation Interiors Golf Classic will
be held on Monday, May 15 at the Tanglewood Golf Club in South Lyon, Michigan.
This fun event with awards is sponsored by Findlay Industries. Join the golf
tournament for $140 or register a foursome for $500.
The Automotive & Transportation Interiors Scholarship Awards were created
in 1995 to encourage the next generation of designers, engineers and managers
to pursue careers in the automotive interiors field. The editorial advisory
board of the magazine recommends the participating schools. The colleges and
universities that have received funding from this scholarship program include
the University of Michigan, Michigan State University, Oakland University,
Kettering University, Macomb Community College, Central Michigan University,
Western Michigan University, Miami University of Ohio, Wayne State University,
Center for Creative Studies, Art Center College of Design and Cleveland
Institute of Art.
