Ward J. Timken, Jr. Joins Timken Company's Office of the ChairmanCANTON, Ohio, March 29 W.R. ("Tim") Timken, Jr., chairman and CEO, today announced the appointment of Ward J. ("Tim") Timken, Jr., to the position of corporate vice president - Office of the Chairman. "In this position, he will report to me and also work closely with Jim Griffith and Bill Bowling," said CEO W.R. Timken, Jr. (Mr. Griffith is president and chief operating officer; Mr. Bowling is executive vice president, chief operating officer and president - Steel.) "Together, the four of us comprise the Office of the Chairman, and it is our responsibility to lead in the production of both short- and long-term financial results. Tim assumes his new position immediately and has been nominated for election as an officer at the April 18 meeting of the board of directors. "As corporate vice president, Tim will serve as my representative in all corporate affairs," said CEO W.R. Timken, Jr. "He will participate in developing both corporate and business level strategy as well as annual business plans and the tactical performance necessary to achieve financial goals. He also will advance corporate level relationships with key customers and suppliers, evaluate organizational and human resource development and oversee major corporate initiatives. "Tim's experience in both our steel and bearing businesses has prepared him well to work with me as we build a stronger Timken Company for the future," said CEO W.R. Timken, Jr. "As a member of the fifth generation of the Timken family to commit themselves to an active role in the management of the company, he represents the continuity that is so important to our customers, associates and suppliers. At the same time, he is young enough to share the same long-term interest in the company's future with Jim Griffith and the new management team that we are currently putting in place." Ward J. Timken, Jr., started with the company in 1992 as executive assistant in the company's steel business. His other steel business positions include senior analyst, principal strategic management analyst and market manager -- distribution. In the bearing business, he has served as marketing manager -- original equipment distribution -- Europe, Africa and West Asia and as vice president -- Latin America. He holds a bachelor's degree in marketing from Georgetown University and a master's in marketing from the University of Virginia.
