AK Steel Names Director of Business Development

    MIDDLETOWN, Ohio--March 28, 2000--AK Steel said it has named Terrance L. BeCraft to the new position of director, business development. In this role, Mr. BeCraft will identify new business opportunities for AK Steel's existing product lines as well as develop strategies for expanding the company's business lines. Mr. BeCraft will also be responsible for determining the optimal process flow configurations to enhance synergies created by AK Steel's acquisition of Armco.
    Terry BeCraft joined the company as a co-op student at the Ashland, Kentucky Works in 1974. He progressed through a number of management positions in the flat-rolled carbon steel segment before taking on overseas assignments in the oil field supply and other international businesses. In 1988 he was named manager, manufacturing applications for the company's Butler, Pennsylvania Works. In 1995 he was named general manager of the Butler Works.
    Succeeding Mr. BeCraft as general manager, operations, Butler Works is Dennis R. Wist. Denny Wist began his career in 1973 in metallurgy at the Butler Works. He progressed through numerous operations and materials management positions and was most recently general manager, Zanesville (OH) Works.
    Douglas C. Garvin has been named general manager, operations, Zanesville Works. Mr. Garvin began his career in 1977 in metallurgy at the company's Butler Works. He progressed through a number of operations, materials management and scheduling positions, and most recently was general manager, materials management for the former Armco specialty steel plants.
    Mr. BeCraft holds a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Cincinnati and a master's degree in management science from the University of Dayton. Mr. Wist holds a Bachelor of Science degree in metallurgy from Pennsylvania State University and a master of business administration degree from the University of Pittsburgh. Mr. Garvin holds a Bachelor of Science degree in metallurgical engineering from Lafayette College.
    AK Steel produces flat-rolled carbon, stainless and electrical steel products for automotive, appliance, construction and manufacturing markets, as well as standard pipe and tubular steel products. AK Steel is headquartered in Middletown, Ohio. It employs about 11,000 men and women in plants and offices in Middletown, Coshocton, Mansfield, Warren and Zanesville, Ohio; Ashland, Kentucky; Rockport, Indiana; and Butler, Sharon and Wheatland, Pennsylvania. AK Steel also produces snow and ice control products, and operates a major industrial park on the Houston, Texas ship channel.
