Ford Gives World Excellence Awards to 50 Global Suppliers for 1999 PerformanceDEARBORN, Mich., March 28 Ford Motor Company last night awarded its highest supplier recognition -- the World Excellence Award -- to 50 suppliers for their superior performance in respective categories in 1999. In a ceremony at the Detroit Opera House, the awards were presented for the second year. The winners and about 125 of Ford's largest production and non-production suppliers attended the event. The World Excellence Award provides annual recognition based on quality, cost and delivery metrics that were jointly developed by Ford and its suppliers. The 50 suppliers from 10 countries won 65 awards in various categories. "The suppliers who have earned the World Excellence Award are members of an exclusive world-class club," said Carlos Mazzorin, Ford group vice president of Global Purchasing and South America. "This award honors the best and it gives Ford Motor Company the opportunity to recognize its suppliers for their efforts in helping us to achieve our successful results in 1999. "We are building a tradition with these awards. This award demonstrates that Ford's quest for excellence cannot be accomplished without our supplier partners," he added. "We are pleased to honor them in this fashion." There are four different types of World Excellence Awards. The Platinum Award is for the parent company of suppliers with multiple businesses that excel in all target areas -- quality, cost and delivery -- in all of its units. There were no Platinum Award winners this year. The Gold Award is given to suppliers that excel in all three areas; 11 suppliers won the Gold Award. The Silver Award is given to suppliers that stand out in one or two of the three areas; 17 suppliers won the Silver award. A final category -- Recognition of Achievement -- is given to suppliers who impact customer satisfaction by leading Ford key initiatives, such as High Mileage Improvement, Warranty Reduction, Environmental Leadership and Consumer Focused Technology; Recognition of Achievements awards were given to 27 suppliers. Two Volvo suppliers received the Q1 Award -- the first given since Volvo joined Ford.
