AK Steel Raises Stainless and Carbon Sheet Prices

    MIDDLETOWN, Ohio--March 27, 2000--AK Steel said it is increasing the price of its flat-rolled stainless products by an average of 4% to 6% through a reduction in discounts, effective with shipments on and after April 3, 2000. The increases will apply to all 200-, 300- and 400-series grades. In addition AK Steel said current raw material surcharges will continue to be charged at the time of shipment.
    AK Steel also said it is increasing transaction prices on its carbon sheet products effective with shipments on and after July 3, 2000. The company says it is raising prices by $20 per ton on hot-and cold-rolled products, and by $25 per ton on all coated steel products.
    AK Steel produces flat-rolled carbon, stainless and electrical steel products for automotive, appliance, construction and manufacturing markets, as well as standard pipe and tubular steel products. AK Steel is headquartered in Middletown, Ohio. It employs about 11,000 men and women in steel plants and offices in Middletown, Coshocton, Mansfield, Warren and Zanesville, Ohio; Ashland, Kentucky; Rockport, Indiana; and Butler, Sharon and Wheatland, Pennsylvania. AK Steel also produces snow and ice control products, standard pipe and tubular products and operates a major industrial park on the Houston, Texas ship channel.
