Detroit Diesel Awards Cylinder Head Production to Cifunsa Diesel
SALPILLO, Coahuila, Mexico--March 27, 2000-- Cifunsa Diesel S.A. de C.V., an affiliated company of Grupa Industrial Salpillo (GIS), today announced that Detroit Diesel Corporation has awarded a portion of the production of its Series 60 Cylinder Head to the company.This will be added to the existing Long Term Agreement between both companies. Cifunsa Diesel is the largest casting supplier to Detroit Diesel for heads and blocks utilized in both the Series 60 and two cycle engine families.
Cifunsa Diesel will produce approximately 7,000 metric tons of this head annually in its Plant 4 which will be cast utilizing the latest technology in the Foundry Industry. Jose Manuel Garza, General Director for the Metal Mechanical Division, said: "Serial production of the Head is scheduled to start during the last quarter of 2000. The head will be assembled on the Series 60 Cylinder Block, which is also manufactured by Cifunsa for the Series 60 Engine, with its final application mainly for Heavy Duty Trucks."
"This new assignment is very relevant for Cifunsa Diesel, to consolidate its leadership in North America for production of Gray Iron Blocks and Heads for the Diesel Engine Market," said Felipe Mellado, General Director of the Corporate Division.
Cifunsa Diesel, based in Salpillo, Coahuila, Mexico, is part of the GIS conglomerate that also participates in production of construction materials and home products, with combined annual sales over US$600M.
