Delphi Expands Support for Navistar International Corp.LOUISVILLE, Ky., March 23 Delphi Automotive Systems will add International Truck and Engine Corporation, manufacturer of International(R) brand trucks, buses and engines, to its expanding list of customers with more than $35 million of annual business, starting next year, Delphi officials said here today at the 29th Annual Mid-America Trucking Show. Navistar International Corporation announced earlier today that it has returned to the roots of its proud heritage by changing the name of its operating company to International Truck and Engine Corporation. The operating company's new identity traces its origins to 1914 when the International(R) brand was first used on the company's trucks. The former name for the operating company was Navistar International Transportation Corporation. Delphi received contracts to manufacture modular doors, instrument panels, seat belts and steering wheels for International's new line of medium-duty trucks. Delphi announced last March that International had contracted Delphi to engineer and manage more than 80 percent of the cab door content on its new product line. Delphi door content will include glass, hinges, outside handles, seals, as well as hardware modules, which carry the window lift system along with the lock/latch system. In October 1999, Delphi announced a long-term contract with International to design and manufacture seat belts for the first phase of International's re-design of its entire product line, which will begin with its medium-duty vehicles. Delphi's first contract with International was obtained in 1998, for the manufacture of instrument panels for the upcoming medium-duty truck program. In addition to the modular door, seat belt and instrument panel business that was previously announced, Delphi announced today for the first time that it will also supply International with steering wheels. The steering wheels will be manufactured at Delphi's Vandalia facility near Dayton, Ohio, the same location at which Delphi will manufacture International modular doors. Seat belts for International will be Delphi's first seat belts manufactured in North America and will be made at Delphi's award-winning RIMIR facility in Matamoros, Mexico.
