Nissan North America Supports Census 2000 LA Counts Campaign
               - Vehicles Provided to Support Census Outreach -


    TORRANCE, Calif., March 22 Los Angeles Mayor Richard
Riordan and Jan C. Perry, executive director, Census 2000 Outreach Project for
the City of Los Angeles, will hold a Community Leadership Breakfast at
8:30 a.m. PST on March 23 at the Epicentre Restaurant, at which the Census
2000 partnership with Nissan North America, Inc. will be announced.  The news
conference will be held on the first floor of The Kawada Hotel, located at 200
S. Hill Street.
    "Nissan North America is proud to join the effort to promote participation
in Census 2000 by lending a fleet of 10 vehicles -- Nissan Quest minivans and
Frontier trucks -- to support the City of Los Angeles' Census 2000 Outreach
Project," said Jed Connelly, Nissan's senior vice president, sales and
marketing.  Each of the vehicles will be equipped with magnetic door signs in
multiple languages that encourage residents in the diverse neighborhoods of
Los Angeles to join the Census 2000 effort.  The message -- Nissan North
America Proudly Supports Census 2000.  LA Counts! -- Appears in English,
Spanish, Chinese, Korean, Tagalog, Russian, Armenian and Vietnamese.
    "The City of Los Angeles appreciates Nissan's generosity in recognizing
the importance of LA's Census 2000 outreach.  The use of signage in so many
languages is an especially important part of this effort and sends a signal
that with the LA Counts Census 2000 campaign, Everyone Counts!," commented
Richard Riordan, Los Angeles City Mayor.
    As mandated by the Constitution, a census is conducted every 10 years.
The results of the census are used in a variety of ways that benefit all
residents of the United States. Specifically, the City of Los Angeles uses
Census information from everything from planning schools and building roads to
providing recreational opportunities and managing health care services.
