Fanning to Take Senior Communications Post at Michelin North America; Morton to Leave Michelin for Executive Post at Nissan

    GREENVILLE, S.C., March 22 Michael I. Fanning, who joined
Michelin North America, Inc. last April, has been named the company's vice
president of public relations and government affairs, effective May 1.
    Fanning succeeds Jim Morton, who will leave the company to take a position
at Nissan North America, Inc.  "For the past 24 years, Jim has been an
effective leader within Michelin, the tire industry, the state of South
Carolina and the Greenville community," said James Micali, chairman and
president, Michelin North America.  "We wish him all the best in his new job."
    Fanning previously was director of public relations at Michelin.  Before
joining the company, he was vice president, corporate communications, at
Liberty Corp., Greenville, S.C., where he directed corporate, financial,
employee and marketing communications at the insurance and broadcasting
company.
    Before joining Liberty, Fanning was public relations director at The
Reader's Digest Association, Inc., in New York and prior to that spent
10 years with IBM Federal Systems in the Washington, D.C. area.  He was public
affairs director at the Associated General Contractors of America in
Washington, D.C. before joining IBM.
    Fanning holds a bachelor's degree in Radio, TV and Film from the
University of Maryland.

airplanes, automobiles, bicycles, earthmovers, farm equipment, heavy duty
