Win a Free Earth Smart Car From Earth Day Network - Toyota Prius Up for Grabs as Part of Earth Day 2000 Celebration

TORRANCE, Calif., March 21 Earth Day Network today
announced the launch of the Earth Smart Car Giveaway as part of the official
countdown to Earth Day 2000 in the United States. The promotion features the
chance to win a new Toyota Prius, donated by Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A.,
Inc., simply by signing up on the Earth Day Network website at
http://www.earthday.net. The winner will be announced at EarthFair 2000 on the Mall
in Washington DC on Earth Day, April 22.
"The more people that choose cleaner, high-tech cars like the exciting new
Prius, the more we can reduce the pollution that chokes our cities and causes
global warming," said Denis Hayes, national coordinator of the first Earth Day
in 1970, and Chairman of Earth Day Network. "Come to earthday.net and sign up
to win a free car that is fun, clean, efficient -- and a good example of the
technologies we need to invest in for the health of our environment."
The Toyota Prius is the world's first mass-produced hybrid vehicle. It is
powered by both an efficient gasoline engine and a clean, quiet electric motor
depending on driving requirements. The Prius, which will go on sale in the
U.S. this summer, will run more than 90% cleaner than California's current
stringent requirements and will be certified as a Super Ultra Low Emission
Vehicle (SULEV). Prices will be announced soon.
"We are very proud of the Prius and our participation in Earth Day 2000,"
said Don Esmond, TMS group vice president and general manager for the Toyota
Division. "It is an example of our commitment to developing the cleanest and
most technologically advanced vehicles possible." Esmond also noted that in
addition to Prius, Toyota has more advanced battery-equipped electric vehicles
in use in the U.S. than any other manufacturer.
