Interstate Batteries Chooses PeopleSoft Supply Chain to Leverage Collaborative Commerce

    LAS VEGAS--March 20, 2000--

Extended PeopleSoft Supply Chain with eProcurement Gives
Interstate Batteries Business-to-Business e-Commerce Advantage

At the IBM Global Supply Chain Executive Conference in Las Vegas today, PeopleSoft announced that Interstate Batteries will implement PeopleSoft Supply Chain Management to enhance collaboration across enterprise boundaries and build a complete, tightly integrated infrastructure for business-to-business e-commerce.
Interstate Batteries chose PeopleSoft Supply Chain Management to leverage its Web capabilities and ease of use, as well as the flexibility of its underlying technology.
The end-to-end supply chain solution will allow Interstate Batteries and its independent distributors to function as a single, virtual organization via the Internet, while generating financial entries as distinct entities. For example, an independent distributor placing a request to Interstate Batteries for additional product would create a Purchase Order. This would then automatically result in creation of a mirror image Sales Order for Interstate Batteries corporate, and also for the replenishment of stock request to come from either its distribution center or directly from one of its battery suppliers.
The PeopleSoft solution will also enhance Interstate Batteries' and its independent distributors' performance measurement for customer service. The majority of Interstate Batteries' customers are serviced through independent distributors with daily routes. Interstate Batteries' route sales information will be integrated with the PeopleSoft applications to collect sales and billing information, including dealer subsidies, customer rebates, and promotion tracking. The PeopleSoft Enterprise Performance Measurement workbench will use these metrics to measure Interstate Batteries' and its independent distributors' customer service information.
"PeopleSoft will provide us a better, more integrated approach to e-business and allow us to embrace future technologies," said Brian Coleman, director of enterprise applications at Interstate Batteries. "This will provide better efficiencies for everyone in the Interstate system, and ultimately our customers."
Interstate Batteries is a privately held marketing and distribution company headquartered in Dallas, Texas. Interstate has 320 distributors who service nearly 200,000 retail accounts throughout the U.S. and select International locations.
The PeopleSoft Supply Chain Management suite will provide Interstate Batteries with a tightly integrated, end-to-end supply chain. The solution enables business-to-business and business-to-consumer buying and selling over the Internet, and enhances collaboration with customers, suppliers and partners, boosting response times and lowering costs. A single, seamlessly integrated system schedules production for peak efficiency, captures and administers accurate orders, and helps produce and deliver products to exact specifications.
Interstate Batteries will use PeopleSoft eProcurement software to standardize purchasing by all employees, eliminate off-contract buying, and allow the company to leverage its buying power for optimized supplier discounts. PeopleSoft eProcurement links to Commerce One MarketSite, the leading global marketplace portal connecting buyers and sellers over the Web.
In addition to the PeopleSoft Supply Chain Management suite, Interstate Batteries will implement select PeopleSoft Enterprise Performance Management business intelligence applications to enable strategic decision-making throughout the supply chain. PeopleSoft business intelligence applications provide supply chain metrics for areas such as inventory management, customer service, and profitability analysis. In addition, Interstate will implement numerous Financial Management and Human Resource Management System modules. The PeopleSoft solution will replace more than 40 software applications currently being run by Interstate.
PeopleSoft Consulting, PeopleSoft's professional services division, will lead the entire Interstate implementation. Packaged implementation services will provide rapid and cost-effective deployment of PeopleSoft eProcurement and eStore.
"Interstate Batteries joins our growing list of wholesale distribution customers who realize the benefits of a tightly integrated end-to-end supply chain solution," said Mike Frandsen, vice president and general manager of PeopleSoft's supply chain division. "PeopleSoft Supply Chain Management allows these organizations and their customers and business partners to collaborate across enterprise boundaries via the Web to create ever-increasing value which can be passed on to customers."
