Cummins Names Engine Business Unit Leaders

    COLUMBUS, Ind.--F. Joseph Loughrey, Executive Vice President and President - Engine Business with Cummins Engine Co. Inc., has announced key appointments in the Engine Business.

    "In today's rapidly changing business environment and increasingly competitive world, we must continue to improve our ability to meet or exceed customer expectations while also achieving the levels of profitability rightfully expected by our shareholders," said Loughrey. "I am pleased to announce an Engine Business organization structure designed to retain the strength of a market-based organization while better leveraging common assets and increasing accountability for financial performance."

    Martha F. Brooks, 40, was named Vice President and General Manager - Truck and Bus Engine Business. In her new role, Brooks is responsible for developing and implementing heavy- and medium-duty truck and bus market strategy worldwide while significantly improving Cummins' working relationships with original equipment manufacturers. Brooks also has broad responsibility for the marketing, customer engineering, product development and manufacturing functions for these products. Brooks, who has been with Cummins for 14 years, previously served as Vice President - Worldwide Marketing for Heavy and Medium Duty Trucks.

    Larry O. Moore, 50, was named Vice President and General Manager - Light-Duty Automotive Business. Moore is responsible for growing Cummins' current business with DaimlerChrysler while pursuing new opportunities around the world to gain new automotive customers. Moore will also develop and implement market strategy for Cummins' RV market, and is responsible for the marketing, customer engineering and manufacturing for these products. Moore, who previously served as Vice President - Worldwide Operations for the Automotive Business, has had a long career in the automotive business, working at Ford, General Motors and Volkswagen, before joining Cummins.

    Mark A. Levett, 50, was named Vice President and General Manager - High Horsepower Engine Business. Previously Vice President - International, Levett is responsible for developing Cummins' Mining, Rail and Government business worldwide. He is also responsible for the marketing, customer engineering, product development and manufacturing for the products. Levett is a 27-year Cummins veteran.

    James D. (Jim) Kelly, 47, was named Vice President and General Manager - Industrial Engine Business, responsible for developing and implementing worldwide construction, agriculture and marine market strategies while improving relationships with industrial joint venture partners and OEMs. Kelly also has responsibility for all marketing, customer engineering, product development and manufacturing functions for these products. A 24-year Cummins veteran, Kelly previously served as Vice President - Industrial Marketing.

    Richard M. (Rich) Gold, 48, was named Vice President and General Manager - PowerCare and Distribution. Gold is responsible for the Cummins ReCon business, worldwide parts and customer support and North American distribution management. A 20-year Cummins veteran, Gold previously served as Vice President of Cummins' Aftermarket business.

    John C. Wall, 48, will provide technical direction for Cummins as Vice President - Chief Technical Officer. He will manage all research and technology projects connected to our business strategies, including managing all technical aspects of significant new product introductions. Wall will take a strong leadership role across the company driving technology planning and technical functional excellence, implementing engineering standard work, coordinating technical recruiting and development, and pushing toward a common architecture across our product lines. Wall, who has been with Cummins for 14 years, previously served as Vice President - Research and Development.

    N. Thomas (Tom) Linebarger, 37, will continue in his role as Vice President - Supply Chain Management. He is responsible for all engine business purchasing, as well as a number of other supply chain functions including logistics, order management, worldwide materials, and electronic commerce. Additionally, Linebarger has management oversight responsibilities for Holset Engineering Company, Ltd. Linebarger, who joined Cummins in 1994, most recently served as Managing Director of Holset, located in the United Kingdom.

    Roger E. Lang, 56, was named Executive Director - Quality for the Engine Business. Lang is responsible for ensuring that quality processes are driven throughout the organization. These duties will be added to Lang's other responsibilities with the Corporate Manufacturing Engineering and Support organization, where he served most recently as Executive Director. Lang is a 34-year Cummins veteran.

    Richard W. (Rich) Hoffman, 49, was named Executive Director - IT. Hoffman will be responsible for the IT operations within the Engine Business. He will develop and support information systems, integrating information technology and acting as a single point of contact for all Engine Business entities. Additionally, Hoffman will focus on key areas of supply chain management, IT strategy, finance, distribution, and delivery systems. Hoffman joined Cummins in 1998 and was most recently Executive Director - IT for the Automotive Business Unit.

    John R. Hurless, 50, was named Executive Director - Finance. Hurless will be responsible for financial control, analysis and reporting. He will develop Cummins' strategies and plans for business planning, measurement, pricing, and capital processes. Hurless, a 23-year Cummins veteran, most recently served as Controller - Industrial Business Unit.

    Jill E. Cook, 36, Executive Director - Human Resources, will provide Human Resource support for the Engine Business. Cook joined Cummins in 1988, and most recently served as Director - Human Resources Midwest Region and Human Resource Liaison to the Automotive Business Unit.

    Cummins, headquartered in Columbus, Ind., is the world's largest producer of diesel engines above 200 horsepower. The company provides products and services for customers in markets worldwide for engines, power generation and filtration. Cummins reported sales of $6.6 billion in 1999.
