UAW Reaches Tentative Agreement with Guide CorporationANDERSON, Ind., March 17 UAW leaders announced that a tentative agreement on a new contract has been reached with the Guide Corporation. The agreement came at 9:45 p.m. March 16. "We're pleased to announce this tentative national agreement for our members at the Guide Corporation," said UAW President Stephen P. Yokich. "Our leadership team has again produced an agreement that we are proud to take to the membership," Yokich stated. "Negotiators for the UAW and the Guide Corporation worked long hours, in a positive manner, to reach this settlement," stated UAW Vice President Richard Shoemaker, adding, "I am confident that the membership will appreciate the many improvements contained in this agreement." Shoemaker led the UAW bargaining team at Guide and is the director of the UAW General Motors Department. UAW Region 3 Director Terry Thurman, and UAW Region 5 Director Jim Wells, also took part in the negotiations, along with local union leaders from Local 663 in Anderson, Indiana and Local 1977 in Monroe, Louisiana. Details of the new agreement are being withheld pending informational meetings with the UAW membership which are scheduled for next week. The UAW represents about 2,500 workers at Guide facilities in Anderson and Monroe. The Guide Corporation manufactures lighting systems for the automotive industry.
