BEI Technologies Announces Management Changes

    SAN FRANCISCO, March 16 BEI Technologies, Inc.
announced today that it will implement certain management
changes effective May 8, 2000.  Charles Crocker will remain chairman and chief
executive officer.  Dr. Asad Madni, currently president of the Company's
Sensors & Systems subsidiary, will become president and chief operating
officer of BEI Technologies, Inc.  John LaBoskey will become senior vice
president and chief financial officer, and William Whelpley was named senior
vice president, Administration, a new post.  Robert R. Corr was named vice
president, and will continue as treasurer, controller and secretary of the
Company.
    Mr. Crocker, who has been chairman, president and chief executive officer,
announced the changes to coincide with the planned retirement in early May of
Gary Wrench, the Company's outgoing chief financial officer.  Mr. Wrench, who
has been with BEI for 15 years, and chief financial officer for the past six
years, will continue as a director of BEI and will undertake special projects
for the Company, according to Mr. Crocker.
    In addition, Dr. Lawrence Wan will continue to report to Mr. Crocker as
senior vice president and chief technology officer; and, David Pike was named
senior vice president of Divisional Administration and Human Resources.  Dr.
Madni and Messrs. LaBoskey and Whelpley will report to Mr. Crocker, while Mr.
Corr will report to Mr. Whelpley.
    Mr. LaBoskey has been vice president of finance and controller for BEI
Sensors & Systems Company since 1992.  A replacement for that position will
not be named.  Mr. LaBoskey holds degrees from the University of California at
Irvine, the University of Colorado, and has CPA and CPIM credentials.  Mr.
Whelpley was previously vice president and general manager of the Company's
Texas operations and has been with BEI since 1989.  He holds degrees from the
University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School and Columbia University.
    Mr. Crocker commented, "These new assignments will elevate well proven and
trusted members of BEI's management staff into positions that we believe will
help us continue the focus and progress of recent years.  The Company's Board
of Director's joins me in thanking Gary Wrench for his distinguished service
and congratulates Dr. Madni, Dr. Wan and Messrs. LaBoskey, Whelpley, Corr and
Pike on their new corporate positions.  We look forward to implementing this
orderly transition."
    BEI Technologies, Inc. is an established manufacturer of electronic
sensors, motors, actuators and motion control products used for factory and
office automation, medical and scientific equipment, military, aviation and
space systems, and transportation equipment including automobiles, trucks and
off-road equipment.  The Company's micromachined quartz GyroChip(R) sensors
are used in advanced vehicle stability control systems and a significant
increase in the production of those sensors has been in progress since the
middle of 1998.  BEI also manufactures electronic steering wheel position
sensors, seat-memory modules, throttle position and pressure sensors and other
devices used in automotive systems.  GyroChip is a registered trademark of
BEI.
