Delphi Elects Dr. Bernd Gottschalk to Board of DirectorsTROY, Mich., March 15 Delphi Automotive Systems announced today the election of Dr. Bernd Gottschalk, to its board of directors. (Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20000315/DEW018 ) A native of Lubeck, Germany, Dr. Gottschalk, 56, brings a European perspective to Delphi, expanding the international representation of the already globally diverse Delphi board. The 12-member board now includes nine outside board members, with representatives from North America, South America, Asia-Pacific, and Europe. "We're extremely excited that Dr. Gottschalk accepted our invitation to join our board of directors," said Delphi Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President J.T. Battenberg III. "His deep understanding of the automotive industry and his tremendous experience will be valuable to Delphi as we move the company forward." Dr. Gottschalk is the president of the Verband der Automobilindustrie (VDA) (Association of the German Automobile Industry), a position he has held since 1997. He brings over 25 years of global automotive experience and insight to Delphi. In 1972 Dr. Gottschalk joined DaimlerChrysler AG (formerly Daimler-Benz AG). He held a variety of positions until 1988 when he was appointed president of Mercedes-Benz Brazil, the company's largest foreign commercial vehicle operation. In 1992 he was named a member of the Mercedes-Benz Board of Management with responsibility for the worldwide commercial vehicle business. Dr. Gottschalk is a member of the Advisory Boards of Hoffmann-La Roche, Thyssen Krupp Automotive, J.M. Voith AG and Dresdner Bank Latin America. In addition he serves as vice president of the Organisation Internationale des Constructeurs d'Automobiles (OICA) in Paris, France, and he is an honorary professor at the University of Zwickau in Saxony. Dr. Gottschalk completed degrees in economics at the Universities of Hamburg and Saarbrucken in Germany and Stanford University in Palo Alto, Calif., USA. He received a doctorate degree from the University of Hamburg in 1971. In addition to Dr. Gottschalk, Delphi's other outside board members are: * Virgis W.
