Delco Remy International Unit Obtains Exclusive Agreement For Enginaire Precleaners

    ANDERSON, Ind., March 15 Delco Remy International, Inc.
has announced that its OEM subsidiary, Delco Remy America (DRA)
and Enginaire Precleaners, a division of American Enterprises, have reached an
agreement that grants DRA an exclusive five-year license of Enginaire's
patented precleaners for DRA alternators.
    DRA will market, on an exclusive basis, Enginaire precleaners for
alternators used on construction, agricultural and other severe environment
applications.  Currently, Enginaire uses the precleaner on engines, extending
air filter life and improving engine airflow intake.
    Several precleaner configurations have been developed by DRA, including
two that incorporate the use of an air duct to help reduce alternator
temperatures and increase performance and durability.  DRA will match
combinations of ducts and precleaners to meet application requirements.  These
combinations include:  1) Duct used with Precleaner; 2) Duct used alone;
3) Precleaner used alone.
    DRA testing has shown that the addition of the precleaner improves airflow
and reduces internal alternator temperatures in both clean and dusty
environments.  The precleaner attachment typically filters larger debris and
over 80% of dust from the air stream into the alternator.  In addition, the
ducting of cooler air can increase alternator output by 5-10%, reducing the
potential for restriction of critical airflow and extending the life of the
alternator.

    Precleaners will initially be available in combination with a new air
intake shield for several Delco Remy alternator product families.  Usage on
other alternators will become available in the near future.  Precleaners will
also be available in service packages for field upgrades of existing
alternators.
