Delphi Provides Business Opportunities to Minority Suppliers At Automotive Matchmaker Conference
$83 million in Contracts Awarded Since 1996

DAYTON, Ohio, March 14 For the fifth consecutive year
Delphi Automotive Systems is hosting the Automotive Matchmaker
Conference at the Dayton Convention Center, March 14 and 15, 2000.
The conference is designed to bring purchasing agents from major
automotive manufacturers and suppliers together with minority business
entrepreneurs. The goal is to increase minority business within the North
American automotive industry. Automotive companies including General Motors,
DaimlerChrysler, Mercedes Benz, Toyota and Freightliner, and Tier 1 suppliers
such as Delphi, Denso, TRW Automotive, Valeo and 3M Automotive will have
representatives at this year's conference. So far the conference has brought
an estimated $83 million in new contracts to minority suppliers.
"Delphi believes in partnering with minority business entrepreneurs to
bring high-tech, innovative products to the market," said Deborah Rhynehardt-
Pickens, minority supplier development manager for Delphi Global Purchasing
and co-chairperson of the event. "The success of last year's conference
exemplifies the importance of bringing a captive audience of buyers to a forum
where minority suppliers can showcase their capabilities and technologies."
Since its inception, the conference has grown to include more than 200 of
the nation's top minority suppliers; participation in the 2000 conference
jumped almost 10 percent over last year.
"Not only does the conference help buyers find solutions to complex needs
and help suppliers generate contracts, it opens up communication between the
two and has led to increased networking that may lead to future business,"
Rhynehardt-Pickens said.
Reggie Williams, chief executive officer of Procurement Resources, will
kick off this year's event. A minority business development expert, Williams
counsels Fortune 100 companies in developing and managing minority procurement
programs.
In addition to meeting new business prospects, suppliers will hear from a
variety of technology experts on what innovations the automotive industry
needs and resources available to meet those needs.
"Quality, competitiveness, the ability to bring products to the market
fast, and technological leadership are key to our goal of being recognized by
our customers as their best supplier," said Ronald M. Pirtle, president of
Delphi Harrison Thermal Systems, during a keynote address. "The more we can
help our suppliers understand and meet our technology needs, the stronger we
will be, the stronger they will be and the stronger our customers will be."
